This is a wonderful 6th plate daguerreotype of an old woman wearing a white bonnet, and a string of pearls, and wire rimmed glasses. She is holding a large book in one hand while her other arm is resting on another book. The image has an early stippled mat and preserver. There is a large area of red wax with an open square on the back of the plate indicating that a wooden block was used to secure the plate during while the surface was being buffed. The dag comes in a full “geometric” case with a felt trim pad.
